Why We Built This
Since Apple introduced the HEIC format as the default photo format on iPhones and iPads with iOS 11 in 2017, millions of people have run into the same frustrating problem: they transfer photos from their iPhone to a Windows PC, a website upload form, or an email — and nothing can open the files.
HEIC is a great format — it produces smaller files with better quality than JPG. But it simply isn't supported everywhere yet. Windows has limited support, many websites reject HEIC uploads, and sharing HEIC photos with non-Apple users often means they can't view them at all.
We built HEICtoJPG Converter to solve this problem in the simplest, fastest, and most private way possible. No software to install, no accounts to create, no files leaving your device.
How It Works
Under the hood, HEICtoJPG Converter uses libheif — the same open-source decoding library used by professional tools like GIMP and ImageMagick — compiled to WebAssembly (WASM). This means the full power of a native HEIC decoder runs right inside your web browser.
When you drop a HEIC file onto our converter, your browser decodes it locally, renders the image data to a canvas, and exports it in your chosen format (JPG, PNG, or WebP). At no point does the file leave your device. There is no server-side processing, no temporary storage, and no data collection of any kind.
